Break in

I am sure they were up to no good!

I was driving down the street and I saw people dig a trench. Next to it was a suspicious looking VAN. Normally, people announce construction in the neighborhood. So, I thought this was rather suspicious behavior.  I told others, but they thought I was just paranoid. Probably, they did not really use the word "paranoid" like that. Still the message was clear; I was imagining things. Until, of course, the Internet crashed. No phone line; no Internet.  It was as if a bomb exploded. All of a sudden people were running around like headless chickens, because they got them selfs plugged out of the matrix.

How can you live without the Internet, email and phones?! That is virtually impossible: Pun intended! I thought: well, worse case scenario I drive down to a Starbucks or something if I want to get plugged in. Then one of the neighbors started blaming the other neighbor. One that was doing a lot to get it fixed for the entire street even had an angry woman drive up close to him and thank him for causing havoc. She apparently assumed that because he was fixing it, he must have a part in causing it.

Seriously, I tell you that the street turned into a war zone within a few days. I should buy the whole street a vibrator or send them on a meditation retreat or anger management course or something.... I have not yet decided what would work better. I felt strange being in the middle of all the street fights. Not the street-fighting we did on a console, this was an emotional discharge or verbal diarrhea. Totally out of left field if you'd ask me.

I knew that that VAN had something to do with the cable breaking. Furthermore it would be the ultimate break in. No Internet, phone line, an absolute perfect way to start a break in. Seriously noone had phone or Internet. Yet, what the little VAN -that was up to no good- did not realize was that everyone having no Internet is actually way more efficient than having a standard bugler alarm. The streets have never been as crowded. Crawling with confused cable and phone companies trying to figure out why there was no signal.

I told them the cable was broken. I told them that I had seen the VAN. No one believed me, until they found no other solution. And it so turned out .....  I was right. Not that I am always right, just 89 % of the time. I have that gut feeling, and feeling is hardly ever off!
